Lecture: How big corporations play the open source game
Explaining open source strategies used by big corporations like IBM, Oracle, Sun and Microsoft
Today all big corporations participate in open source projects. But did you ever think about why they do that, and how they choose which open source projects to participate in? Why did Oracle invest so much into Linux? Why is IBM so close to the Apache foundation? Why did Oracle donate OpenOffice to the Apache foundation? Why did Microsoft start their own open source foundation? Most hackers don't care about or at least don't understand the business motivations that drive large corporations, but if you want to learn about such questions, this lecture is for you.
